Skin Biopsies
A skin biopsy is a diagnostic procedure used to investigate unusual skin growths, lesions, or changes in the skin’s appearance. It involves removing a small section of skin tissue so it can be examined under a microscope. This allows for a more accurate diagnosis of a wide range of conditions, including skin cancers, inflammatory disorders, and certain infections.
There are several types of biopsy techniques, including shave, punch, and excisional biopsies. The choice of method depends on the size, depth, and location of the area being investigated, as well as the suspected condition. The procedure is performed under local anaesthetic and is generally quick and well tolerated.
Before recommending a biopsy, I will carry out a detailed assessment to understand the nature of your concern and determine the most appropriate next step. Should a biopsy be advised, we will discuss the process in full and ensure you are comfortable and informed throughout.
If you’ve noticed something unusual on your skin or feel that something needs closer examination, I’m available to assist. Please get in touch to arrange a consultation.
